Back at it

It has been too long!  I have had many changes since my last post including a move out of the province of Quebec to New Brunswick, a pregnancy announcement followed by the arrival on December 19th, 2014,  of a sweet baby girl Gabrielle.

As soon as the weather from the long winter cleared up I got back into running.  I completed a 5k run in a community race at the beginning of this month on June 6th.  It was a challenging run with lots of hills, some wind and on a trail.

That  run got my adrenalin going and I immediately signed up for another 5k that would take place in two weeks time.  It was convenient as the course was pretty much right out my front door and I got to do my practice runs on it.
On the day of the run, I completed it in under 30 minutes and finished strong which was my goal.  I signed my two year old daughter, Marianna up to run a 500m fun run.  She definitely had fun with it and got her first running medal!  We are signed up for another community run at the end of July.  Hopefully I can shave off some more time!

Thanks to my husband, Simon for the constant love and support for giving me the time to get back into what I love!

Crochet

Bonjour!

I have been away for quite awhile.  Never finding the time to write in my blog.  I have had a lot going on since the end of the summer.  One of the things that has taken up a lot of my time has been crocheting.  Before Marianna was born I started to crochet because I wanted to make her some hats for when she was a newborn. And then,  after she was born I got occupied with her and summer activities.  However, with the fall coming and cooler weather I started to crochet again.  I was looking for new designs and found a great one for Minion hats! (Minion hat patterns by  Crochet by Jennifer

I made the ones in the picture below for my friends children.

Right now I am working on an adult Minion hat.  I am also now working on some new patterns for different hats.  I hope to post some new ones soon!

Raising my baby bilingual

Bonjour!
J'ai été absent de mon blog, mais je vais essayer de revenir à elle. Je me suis enveloppé dans toutes mes activités de l'été.  I have been away for quite a while from my blog but I am going to try and get back to it.  I got wrapped up in all my summer activities.

I find that I have more interactions now with Quebecer's due to my daughter.  Everyone wants to talk baby talk with her, I explain that they can speak in french with her as my husband is french and we are raising her billingual.

Voici un article au sujet de certaines recherches les plus récentes en matière de bilinguisme et les avantages de l'éducation de vos enfants avec deux ou plusieurs langues.

En Vacances! (On Vacation)

Yesterday, my husband and I packed up our Honda Odyssey and left for a one month vacation to vist my parents.  I was a little bit hesitant about travelling 2 days with our baby and dog in our van, but yesterday we did well and we have just started our second day!

Potato Crust Quiche

My husband and I decided not to load up on groceries this month as we will be leaving for vacation shortly. I made it my goal to use up all the food we have left in our cupboards and fridge.

The other day, I decided to creat a french recipe using the rest of our eggs, potatoes  and light cream cheese I found in our fridge.  We also, recently bought some locally grown asparagus so I decided to create a meal with these 4 main ingredients.  I used the rest of our 7 eggs, almost the full 8 oz container of light cream cheese spread, and about 10 spears of asparagus.  I also added some green onions, pepper and last bit of our mozerella cheese.

I think the result was quite tasty!

I did not translate this recipe, however it is french inspired!

Frenglish Mama's Potato Crust Quiche

Ingredients:
3 medium potatoes
2 tbsp grape seed oil (other oil would do as well)
Approx 10 spears of Asparagus
7 eggs
3/4 container of spreadable light cream cheese
1/2 cup green onion
Pepper to taste
1/2 cup 2% mozarella cheese

Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Cut the potatoes into 1/8 inch slices and pan fry in 2 tbsps of grape seed oil(other oil can be used as well).  Fry at medium for approx 10 min and then transfer to a 9 inch pie or casserole dish covering the bottom of the dish. Set aside.

Remove the ends of the asparagus and cut the remainder into 1 inch sticks.  Steam for approx 3min and put on top of the potatoes.

Beat eggs until yolk and whites are combined then add cream cheese and beat until combined.  Add green onions and pepper to the mixture and pour over potatoes and asparagus in the casserole dish.  Sprinkle grated mozerella cheese over the eggs and place in the oven for approx 30-35min.

Let cool for 5 min and serve immediately.

Bonne Appétit!
